Today, let's dive into the cornerstone of ISO 9001:2015 - the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle. šāØ
Understanding PDCA: The Framework for Continuous Improvement
ISO 9001:2015 places a significant emphasis on a systematic approach to quality management, and at the heart of this approach lies the PDCA cycle.
This four-step model is a powerful tool for organisations striving for continual improvement in their processes and systems. šš”
1. Plan: Setting the Foundation
The PDCA cycle kicks off with the Planning phase.
Organisations identify objectives and processes necessary to deliver results in accordance with customer requirements and the organisation's policies.
This is the phase where goals are set, potential risks are assessed, and strategies are developed. It's the blueprint for success. ššļø
2. Do: Executing the Plan
Once the plan is in place, it's time to execute.
The "Do" phase is all about implementing the plan and putting it into action. This is where the rubber meets the roadāresources are mobilised, processes are activated, and everyone is on board to make the plan a reality.
It's the phase of turning ideas into actions. šš§
3. Check: Monitoring and Evaluation
The third phase, "Check," involves monitoring and evaluating the results against the objectives defined in the planning phase.
It's about keeping a watchful eye on key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensuring that everything is on track.
This phase provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of the plan and execution. šš
4. Act: Learning and Improvement
Based on the information gathered in the Check phase, it's time to take action.
The "Act" phase involves making necessary adjustments and improvements to the processes. Whether it's addressing deviations, mitigating risks, or capitalising on opportunities, this phase is about learning from experience and driving continual improvement.
It's the engine that keeps the cycle moving forward. šš
